Event Preview Round 7 of Yorkshire Points Cyclocross Richmond School organized
by Cyclo Cross North East (CNXE) and Westbrook Cycles
Richmond School, North Yorkshire, Sunday 29th November 2009
Once again Cyclo Cross returns to the popular venue of Richmond School, by kind
permission of School Deputy Headmaster Mr. Dave Clark of Richmond CC.
Despite the venue being midway through a vast redevelopment parts of the popular
course remain in tact, and the organizer Keith Murray promises a wide, flowing
course to challenge all styles of riding.
Despite being a CXNE event, it is a counting round of the Yorkshire CCA Points
series. The Yorkshire Points format allows for separate races the timetable being:
Youth 10:30
U12 (separate races for U10/U12) 11:00
Vets & Women’s 12:30
Senior & Junior 14:00
As usual in CXNE races this season there will be a gridded start with electronic chip
timing will be used. This will give an instant result with each rider getting their lap
times to compare with fellow riders. Any sprint finishes can be decided with
accuracy to 1000th of a second!
10:30am sees the 1st race will be for Youths with a £50.00 fist prize, local rider Adam
Martin (Activ Cycles) has dominated proceedings in the CXNE League and will be
looking to see if there are some Yorkshire League regulars like Joseph Moses and Edward McParland who is 3rd overall in the National Points series can challenge him.
Depending on numbers at 11am it is hoped the U12 race can be split into U8/U10 &
U12 races, with prizes for all entrants
The ‘Vets’ racing in Yorkshire has boomed this season, with over 70 riders for last
weeks Vets/Women event in Myrtle Park round of the season long Yorkshire Points
Competition. It is hoped that the local Veteran Riders will turn out and put a stop to
the Zepnat Train of Jough Watson, Matt Denby & Steve Barnes who seem to be on
fine form at the moment!
‘Jocky’ Watson must start as favorite as he has been a course advisor for the CXNE
organisers so he’ll know what to expect and no doubt have the racing lines already
planned! North East League regulars Cliff Featherstone & Barry Kipling (both MTS
Cycles) will be looking to stop a Yorkshire invasion and take home the £100 value
first Prize. With Prizes to the first ten Vets overall, Vets 50 and Ladies there are
plenty of spoils to battle for.
The Feature/Support race of the day at 2pm will see a National Trophy standard field.
Organiser Keith Murray has managed to attract some top names in domestic cyclocross
to battle for some big prizes.
The Hope duo Paul Oldham (current National Trophy leader) and the big powerhouse
that is Dave Collins have to start as favorites to take the SCOTT CX Team Frameset
worth £599, possibly the biggest prize ever offered in a North East CX race? With the
second placed rider getting a pair of Dugast Tubulars and 3rd £100 they will be
looking to see off the challenge of other confirmed riders including former U23 &
Junior ‘Cross star now turned Professional Road Rider Ian Bibby (Halfords) North
East duo of Stu Wearmouth & Steven Ward (MTS) and Yorkshire riders Rob Jebb
(Wheelbase) Noel Clogh (Fietsen Tempo) and Chris Young (JD Cycles) Other top
riders like National Junior Champion Tom Moses (Team Wallis CHH) Tim Baldwin
& Robert Watson (Paul Milnes Cycles) Paul Young (Glendene CC) Oli Webseter &
Neal Crampton (Crosstrax) should make for a thrilling race.
Venue.
Richmond School is 10 minutes from the Scotch Corner junction of the A1, on
Darlington Road, post code DL10 7BQ.
